Chondroitin – a key ingredient supporting joint health
What chondroitin is
Chondroitin is a natural chemical compound counted among the glycosaminoglycans, which occurs in articular cartilage. It is a basic element building the cartilage matrix and is responsible for its springiness and its ability to cushion loads. Thanks to the presence of chondroitin the joints can work smoothly, and the bone surfaces are protected against friction and damage. With age or in the course of degenerative diseases the amount of chondroitin in the cartilage decreases, which leads to pain and a limitation of mobility.
Biological functions of chondroitin
The basic role of chondroitin is to maintain the integrity and elasticity of articular cartilage. This substance binds water, which allows the cartilage to fulfil the function of a shock absorber. In addition, chondroitin supports the synthesis of type II collagen and of proteoglycans, which are indispensable for the regeneration of cartilage tissue. This compound also inhibits the activity of enzymes that degrade cartilage, which slows down degenerative processes. It displays an anti-inflammatory action, thanks to which it reduces swelling and pain complaints within the joints.

The use of chondroitin in medicine
Chondroitin is widely used in the treatment of degenerative joint disease. Preparations containing this ingredient help to reduce pain, improve the mobility of the joints and slow down the progress of cartilage degeneration. It often occurs in combination with glucosamine, which gives a synergistic effect supporting the rebuilding of cartilage tissue. The use of chondroitin is also justified in post-injury rehabilitation and in prevention in people particularly burdened with physical effort, for example athletes or people performing heavy physical work.
Natural sources of chondroitin
Chondroitin occurs naturally in animal cartilage, which is why in the diet we will find it above all in bone broths and in jellies prepared from bones and cartilage. However, these amounts are small and difficult to estimate, and therefore in practice most of the chondroitin supplied to the body comes from dietary supplements and medicinal preparations.

Supplementation with chondroitin
Supplements with chondroitin are available in the form of capsules, tablets, powders and oral solutions. Doses of between 800 and 1200 mg a day are usually used, divided into several portions. The effects of supplementation appear gradually, because chondroitin acts through the rebuilding and regeneration of cartilage, and not through the immediate relief of symptoms. Regular use of the preparations may, however, significantly improve the comfort of life of people with joint diseases. Clinical studies have shown that chondroitin reduces the need for painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, which additionally speaks in favour of its use.
Safety and side effects
Chondroitin is considered a safe and well tolerated substance. The most frequent adverse effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints, such as diarrhoea or flatulence. Allergic reactions are rarely observed. Preparations with chondroitin should be used in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer or the doctor. Particular caution should be exercised by people taking anticoagulant drugs, because there are reports of a possible intensification of their action.

Chondroitin and glucosamine
Chondroitin very often occurs in supplements in combination with glucosamine. The two compounds complement each other in their action, because glucosamine supports the production of proteoglycans, while chondroitin is responsible for retaining water in the cartilage and for inhibiting degradation processes. Such a combination, used regularly, improves the elasticity and mobility of the joints and reduces pain complaints.
Modern preparations from DWATRO Laboratories
Various forms of chondroitin are available on the dietary supplement market, but their bioavailability may be limited. The DWATRO Laboratories brand develops innovative formulas based on liposomal technology, which increase the absorbability of active substances. Thanks to this the chondroitin contained in the products of DWATRO Laboratories reaches the tissues more effectively, supporting the regeneration of the joints and the improvement of their functioning. The preparations are often combined with glucosamine, collagen, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, which provides comprehensive support for the locomotor system.
FlexLip®
Discover the power of innovation with FlexLip® – a revolutionary liposomal oral gel. FlexLip® was produced using advanced liposomal technology.
The benefits flowing from the liposomal delivery of ingredients are exceptionally significant, especially in the context of supplementation and well-being. Above all, liposomal technology makes possible a more effective delivery of nutrients to the cells of our body. Traditional forms of supplements, such as tablets or capsules, often have limited effectiveness because of the digestive process, which may destroy or reduce the amount of ingredients reaching the bloodstream. Thanks to liposomes, which surround the nutrients and protect them against degradation, their more effective absorption and transport directly into the cells is possible.

Prevention of joint diseases
Chondroitin is not only support in the treatment of already existing problems, but also an element of prevention. Regular supplementation in people exposed to intensive loads on the joints may reduce the risk of degeneration appearing earlier. In combination with an appropriate diet rich in protein, omega-3 acids and antioxidants, and with regular physical activity, chondroitin becomes an element of a comprehensive strategy of caring for joint health.
Summary
Chondroitin is one of the key components of articular cartilage and fulfils a fundamental role in maintaining the health of the locomotor system. Its supplementation supports the regeneration of cartilage, reduces pain and improves the mobility of the joints, and also slows down degenerative processes. Preparations with high bioavailability, such as DWATRO Laboratories supplements, offer more effective support and may be a significant element of both the prevention and the treatment of joint diseases. Regularly taking care to supply the body with chondroitin is an investment in fitness and comfort of life, particularly in later years.
